If you have completed a 4 week beginners throwing course with me or a similar course elsewhere we now offering a 7 week intermediate course. If you have done a course elsewhere please note that you must know basic cylinders and bowls. This class is taught by Gemma with years of teaching experience who will guide you. Gemma has a high level of wheel throwing and can help you to develop and hone throwing skills and correct throwing errors. Gemma has been trained intensively as a production potter and can help to move your skills on the wheel forward.
The general direction of the course will be as follows:
Week 1- refresher week, cylinder basics
Week 2- Mug making, scaling up a little (handles to be attached later)
Week 3- Bud vases, understand shaping techniques, explore how to move the clay in and out to create lots of new shapes
Week 4- spouted vessels and larger bowls (jugs and spouted bowls) this can incorpoate your new shaping techniques. Exploration and repetition! Wheel throwing is a lot of practice so taking what you have learnt and maybe new ideas you might have explore combining techniques with my assistance I will guide you if you would like to make something in particular.
Week 5&6- Trimming and attatchments. This includes attaching handles or decorations and carving if you would like to, any free time get in guided wheel practice.
Week 7- glazing.
This course might be slightly flexible as the weeks pass depending on the skill level in the room. Previous courses have progressed to lidded jars and lemon squeezers, We are happy to demonstrate some different making techniques. We will only be keeping the best of your pieces please be decisive in what you want to fire (it is better for the planet!)
