Open Access classes (guided)

Our open access classes run every Monday, Thursday (7-9pm) and Friday mornings (10-12pm). These are self lead classes where you can bring an idea and have guidance from Gemma to help to complete projects. Students in these classes have been returning to the studio weekly across the last two years and show a strong interest in practising and progressing their ceramics. These classes feature occasional demos on new complex forms such as jars, lemon squeezers and bottle forms as well as scaling up on the wheel and through handbuilt forms. Gemma is around in the studio for these sessions and is able to advise and guide you where needed as well as helping to decorate these pieces with a wide variety of studio glazes that can be used in different unique combinations

Each class is £35 a session and can be paid for on the day, any fired clay will be weighed post final firing and is £5 per kilo of clay, this is to encourage practice- you do not have to fire everything that you make!

If you have previous experience at other studios and have completed at least one beginners course and would like to join open access classes please contact us to be put on the wait list.

Wheel Rental & Open Access Studio Time

Our studio offers wheel rental and open access time for makers who are looking for dedicated practice time and space to work independently on their own projects.

Open access wheel sessions are available on Sundays (all day) and Wednesday mornings, subject to studio availability. Please note that these sessions may not run every Sunday or Wednesday due to workshops, events, or studio scheduling changes. Availability will be confirmed in advance.

Wheel rental is £12 per hour, with a minimum of 2 hours recommended to allow sufficient working time.

All work produced during open access sessions can be fired at the studio. Firings are charged at £5 per kilo of clay, weighed, recorded, and paid for directly once firing is complete.

This open access time is designed for:

  • Independent practice

  • Developing personal projects

  • Gaining confidence on the wheel outside of taught classes

Participants are expected to work independently, as this is not a guided class.

For safety reasons, a health and safety induction must be completed before using the studio. This ensures everyone is familiar with equipment use, studio rules, and safe working practices.

Open access sessions provide a supportive, shared studio environment while allowing you the freedom to work at your own pace..
