The Wood Kiln

We have a high temperature wood kiln here at Parndon Mill, the wood kiln has incredible effects and depth from the flame and ash inside of the kiln. If you are interested in putting a piece(s) in our next firing send us a message. Pieces up to 15cm are £10 per firing, any piece over this measurement will be priced individually. This type of firing is not ideal for anyone working to a tight deadline as the kiln is fired every few months and surfaces can be unpredictable but great for anyone wanting to experiments with new surfaces.

This kiln can also be run off propane gas alone.

Electric Kilns

We have 2 electric kilns at Parndon Mill that have a wide range of temperature firings. The kilns are fired on a weekly/ bi-weekly basis and are availble to rent for those who may otherwise not be able to access this equipment.

For individual pieces we will weigh and charge you £5 per kilo of fired clay. If you are a production maker or need to fill more than one shelf in the kiln we will charge for a half/ full firing of the kiln.

We fire regularly to stoneware temperatures, this means our glazes and clays are in the temperature bracket between 1200C- 1280C. If you require a different temperature bracket you may have to pay for a seperate firing or wait longer, please be aware of this if you are working to a deadline.
